About Malibu
The city of Malibu is known as, “a fabled beachfront with real star power,” and that’s exactly what you get when you visit or work here. Malibu is home to many celebrities and some beaches that are just as famous as those same celebrities. The Pacific Coast Highway runs along the 21 miles of ocean in Malibu. Although it has a reputation as home to some of the Hollywood greats, most residents in the city are from the middle class.
There are 11 beaches along those 21 miles of the Pacific Ocean, and many of them are favorites of surfers. There are also plenty of other outdoor recreation opportunities in the Santa Monica Mountains, the Malibu Bluffs, and other locations. Los Angeles is only 30 miles away from Malibu, making access between the two fairly simple. But, with a population of around 11,000 people, you really are away from it all in Malibu. There’s also a strong arts and culture community in Malibu.

Advantages
- Mediterranean climate
The Mediterranean climate in Malibu means they have warm, dry summers. They have moderate temperatures year-round thanks to the proximity of the Pacific Ocean, so while other California cities are heating up during the “dog days of summer,” it’s still fairly pleasant in Malibu.
- Scenic
Malibu is stunningly beautiful any time of year, and each season brings something new to see and adds to the scenic advantages of the area. There’s a reason people love it here, and most recognize it as soon as they arrive.
- Cultural opportunities
There are plenty of cultural and recreational opportunities in Malibu, so you will have plenty of entertainment when you’re not working on your photo shoot. The Adamson House and Museum is a popular spot, as is the J. Paul Getty Museum. There are many events throughout the year too, and cultural opportunities at art galleries and through the garden club.
Disadvantages
- Natural disasters
It’s not all sunshine and mild temperatures in Malibu. The area is prone to natural disasters, including wildfires, mudslides, storms, and earthquakes. Well-informed is well prepared.
- Price tag
Malibu is expensive, which isn’t a big surprise, given all the advantages and amenities the city has. Be prepared for the costs of working in Malibu to take a bigger chunk of your budget than originally anticipated.
- Dangerous roads
The Pacific Coast Highway is famous and on many people’s bucket lists. But driving it at night can be dangerous. There are a lot of car accidents on the road because of the canyons, curves in the road, and the excessive speed that many drivers use on the road.
