About Greenville

Situated between Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia, Greenville is a city nestled against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With a thriving downtown atmosphere and plenty of nature to go with it, you’ll find something to do year-round and plenty of landscapes if your filming exploits take you in that direction as well. With a mix of big city and southern charm, Greenville has a lot to offer anyone passing through.

The climate in Greenville is fairly mild with the temperature ranging between 90 and 30 degrees. You’ll find great weather most of the year and the area is perfect for outdoor filming in Greenville, so long as you watch the forecast for rain.

Filming Options in Greenville

A filmmaking project is not an easy endeavor. Whether you’re a college student filming your first short or a full-fledged creator of blockbusters, you need all the right tools, equipment, and personnel in place to produce truly great content. Fortunately, Greenville has all the things you could need to produce a high-quality film project.

  • Catering
One of the most important things when putting together a film of any kind is to make sure everyone stays in good shape to produce and is happy with their work. One of the best ways to do this is to arrange that the crew stays well fed. Doing this alone would be quite a feat. That’s why the best option is to bring in a professional caterer so that everyone is not only fed, but well fed.

  • Equipment Rental
A vital component of filming is making sure you have the right equipment. Cameras, mics, grips, and other equipment are pretty much mandatory to make anything filmworthy. Rather than carrying all your own equipment, it might be a good idea to rent the equipment on the spot instead. There are plenty of professional filming equipment companies available in Greenville to meet your needs.

  • Transportation
Getting to and from different destinations can be difficult even if you know the city well. Considering you have a large staff plus the actors in the film that need to get to the filming location, it’s a good idea to make sure you arrange private transportation. After all, expecting everyone to take the bus or drive in is not very practical when trying to put a film together and meet a deadline.

Filming Companies in Greenville

Looking for the ideal Greenville filming space? Once you’ve locked it in, get help making the production process smooth.

  • Reeves Catering

From appetizers to dessert, the team at Reeves Catering has the experience to present delicious offerings sure to please. They offer menu options from the simple to the extravagant for whatever taste you are trying to meet.

  • Greenville Production Services
Having good quality gear will make the filming process much easier. Rather than carrying all your own gear with you though, it’s better to rent the gear you need. Greenville Production Services provides more than just cameras. They provide light sources, lenses, batteries, and even cameras and strobes.

  • Southern Valet and Transportation
When you’re putting together a film, the last thing you want to think about is how everyone is going to get to the set. Since driving and relying on public transportation is not typically a viable option, it’s best to hire a transportation company. Southern Valet and Transportation has an entire fleet of vehicles from smaller SUVs to Limousines for whatever transportation services you may need.

Pros and Cons of Filming in Greenville

As one of the major cities in South Carolina, Greenville has a lot to offer residents and visitors alike and is a great place for filming. With all the positives there are also negatives, as with every city. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of Greenville.

Advantages

  • Plenty of green spaces
For a city named Greenville, you’d expect there to be plenty of nature to find and that’s exactly correct. There are a number of parks and other open spaces to just enjoy nature and with lots of warm weather, there’s plenty of time to do so. This factor is great for outdoor filming, too.

  • Cost of living
Despite being a big city in South Carolina, Greenville is actually cheaper to live in than similar cities and somewhat less expensive than even the national average. This may make filming less costly as well.

  • Plenty of options
Whether you're looking for spaces to film or spaces to party after the filming is done, you’ll find no shortage of options in Greenville.

Disadvantages

  • Summer heat
The weather is mostly pleasant in Greenville but if you aren’t used to summers in the south, particularly the humidity, then you may find it unbearable. If you’re filming during the summer, it may be a good idea to do most of your filming indoors.

  • Traffic
Like most cities, Greenville has no shortage of traffic and congestion, making it difficult to get around if you’re using a car. You might want to pick a filming location that is close to the amenities you need to make it easier for everyone involved.

  • Poor public transit
If you’re thinking that taking the bus might be the solution to the traffic congestion in Greenville, you may need to find another solution. There is a free trolley system if the timing works.

Famous Locations in Greenville

  • Paris Mountain State Park
If you’re looking for one of the best spots of nature in Greenville, then look no further than Paris Mountain State Park. Originally built back during the Great Depression, this park is now a haven for hikers, bikers, and trail enthusiasts year-round.

  • Greenville Zoo
If you’re looking for something interactive to do or maybe something to spark your inspiration, then the Greenville Zoo is a worthwhile visit. With tons to see like a live giraffe cam, different animal exhibits and special educational tours, you’ll have loads of fun each time you visit.

  • Runway Park at GMU
Interested in visiting an actual park themed around aviation? Is watching planes take off and land an interest? If so, Runway Park is for you. With full taxiways where planes come and go, aircraft-themed rides and amusements, as well as an educational amphitheater where you can learn more about aviation, there’s something worth seeing around every corner.
